#001 the First Journal Prompt- First word, Same word.
Hello from a little cafe in Thailand, come write your hearts out with me.
Each week I will be sending out journal prompts to inspire you to write with me!! We will explore all different types of writing and see where our imaginations take us. I hope you find value in these prompts like I do, they will give you the key to explore parts of yourself and other worlds that you don’t realise exist until you start writing.
I found the healing of creative writing through the Muse of my friend Gabby. It’s funny, do you ever find yourself saying when it comes to art, I’d love too, I just don’t have time. Like the things you know are good for you, that you know you will receive great pleasure from, just tend to take a back seat to other things that seem more important.
That was me for years.
My creative energy was always channelled into income producing productivity and whilst I got joy from it, there was always pressure and expectation.
Write for writing sake?
Create for creating sake?
But what for? I don’t have time for that.
The other times I have sat down to write have been to process my thoughts and share them or to try find the answers to my life through journaling.
Ive spent the last decade in hustle culture, where creation time was used to generate income. Now don’t get me wrong I loved that season of my life, but now I find myself in a season of slow down, healing, reflection. I’m in creation of a new world I wish to live in. One where the nervous system is regulated and peace is a daily presence.
This is where the unknown magic of exploring all my range in creative writing comes in.
I’ve given myself permission to get completely lost in the world of my imagination again and it’s more beautiful, broken, whole and fulfilling than I thought possible.
But before I share what i’m very excited to share, this message is for all my ‘can do it all’ readers…
Just because you are good at something, doesn’t mean you have to do it.
Yep, I said it.
Now breathe in, and out. Think about where in your life you maybe holding onto work or doing things that you really just don’t need to be doing.
What space can you create in your own life, for more time to just be?
I use to be a very proud time filler. Full schedule, full life. But I was always burning out and feeling frustrated in my pattern of giving more than I had to give.
I took my power (and peace) back when I started to receive my life instead of trying to earn my own time.
Which brings me to todays writing session. Last night Gabby sent me through a journaling prompt to do together and i’m excited to share it with you too!
#001 JOURNAL PROMPT
First word, Same word.
Choose a word and make it a title, then use that word to start each line. See if you can make it into a poem aiming for 10 lines.
Words like- ‘if, and, because’ are great but you can also challenge yourself by choosing harder words like- ‘fall, run, fire’ etc
And remember when you write, there’s no right or wrong, have fun. Sometimes you won’t like what you write and sometimes you will love what you write, it’s more the process of creating a writing piece than the piece itself.
Here’s what I wrote, I have two poems to share today. (I’ve been very emotional lately and found this to be great therapy! So todays writing is quite depressing)
When
When the light flows through me
When my heart slows its rhythm
When my mind drifts to the lands beyond
When my breath stills and my body moves one last time
When all is said and done,
When I make my last journey,
When and only then can you cry for me, but not before.
These
These eyes see the breaking of hearts
These hands hold the weight of the world
These times bringing the burden of man
These moments, heavy
These legs carrying me forward
These lands tired of destruction
These children, the ones to inherit our greed
These decisions, selfish
These patterns, repeating
These words hold no hope.
I would love to hear you thoughts and if you write a poem from this prompt can you please comment it below :) I would love to read what you write.
Dommy
Thank you so much for this Dommy!! Its always such a pleasure to read your words XX a couple of mine below.

How do you turn power and greed, into healing and love
How do you convince people to trade their obsession for the screen to spending their time gazing above
How do you teach adults that play is important
How do you change the system so it truely nurtures our sons and daughters
How do you shift perspectives when it comes to our future
How do you create equality and balance in a world built upon hierarchy and order

What are the birds saying when they sing their songs
What does the wind whisper through the trees that stand strong
What kind of stories are washed away with the rivers flow
What sacred information does our land want us to know
What would our elders say if we gave them a voice
What would life be like if we never robbed them of their choice

Why is a crooked letter and you should know better
Why did they always tell me that as a kid
Why did the adults try to silence me when I would question things
Why wasn’t I allowed to know
Why didn’t they want to tell me
Why did it always feel like I was on the outside of some secret society
Why is what they don’t want to hear when they want to keep the truth hiding
